On April 22, 2026, the day before the 11th Conference on the Construction and Operation of Parking Garages and Underground Car Parks, an intensive seminar on “Bicycle Traffic Planning and Bicycle Parking” will take place in Mannheim. The seminar will be led by Dipl.-Ing. Wolfgang Bohle from Planungsgemeinschaft Verkehr (PGV-Alrutz) together with Dr. Ilja Irmscher.

The 11th Conference on the Construction and Operation of Parking Garages and Underground Car Parks will take place at the end of April 2026 in Mannheim in conjunction with two technical excursions. GIVT mbH has provided content and conceptual support for this event since the first conference in Munich in 2016. On the first day, participants will visit properties owned by PBW Parkraumgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg mbH, and on the second day, they will visit the “Turley Parking” public underground car park with its semi-automatic parking systems.

Car parks and underground car parks – indispensable for the mobility transition
The second edition of the compendium published by Berlin-based architecture publisher DOM publishers, which has now also been published in English, Turkish and Chinese, has now been released with a new (1st) volume. This is the completely revised and expanded new edition of the successful handbook on car parks and underground car parks, which formulates a practical and highly topical design theory. The planning aid is based on both German and European regulations and also takes into account the recommendations for stationary traffic facilities (EAR 23).

A second volume with numerous implementation details, chapters on mechanical, semi-automatic, and automatic parking systems, as well as important innovative aspects, and a third volume on bicycle parking structures are in preparation.
